Sandra Horbach to Join The Carlyle Group

Washington, DC - Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group today named Sandra J. Horbach Managing Director, Global Partner and Head of the Consumer/Retail sector group. Ms. Horbach, a former General Partner of Forstmann Little & Co., will join Carlyle in September 2005 and be based in New York City.


Daniel F. Akerson, Managing Director and Co-head of the U.S. Buyout Group, said, "We are delighted that Sandra will join Carlyle. Ms. Horbach joined Forstmann Little & Co. as an Associate in 1987 and became a General Partner in 1993. At Forstmann Little, Ms. Horbach had leadership responsibilities in the acquisition, management and oversight of many of Forstmann Little's most successful investments, including Gulfstream Aerospace, Aldila, Department 56, Ziff-Davis Publishing, Community Health Systems, Yankee Candle and Citadel Broadcasting. Prior to joining Forstmann Little, Ms. Horbach worked for two years in the mergers and acquisition department of Morgan Stanley & Co., Inc.


Ms. Horbach serves on the board of directors of Citadel Broadcasting Corp. and Yankee Candle Company, Inc. She also serves on the Rockefeller University Board of Trustees, the Stanford Graduate School of Business Advisory Council and the Chapin School Board of Trustees.


Ms. Horbach earned her M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and her B.A. from Wellesley College.
