Honolulu, HI - Hawaiian Telcom, formerly known as Verizon Hawaii, officially began operating under the Hawaiian Telcom banner today, marking a new beginning in the company’s more than 120-year history in the Islands.

A traditional Hawaiian blessing and dedication ceremony at Hawaiian Telcom by Kahu Curt Kekuna of Kawaiahao Church culminates in the unveiling of the company’s new signage featuring Hawaiian Telcom’s contemporary blue and green circles.

"In a symbolic way, the circles tell the story of this company. We’re a company that has come full circle - back to being locally managed again. We’re managed in Hawaii and our neighbors and families are our customers. This company was founded more than 120 years ago to serve Hawaii’s people, and today we’re returning to that original mission," said Michael Ruley, Hawaiian Telcom’s chief executive officer.

"The circles also represent the overall benefits offered by Hawaiian Telcom: keeping people connected with each other through traditional phone service for local and long distance calls, national and statewide wireless service, high-speed digital subscriber line (DSL) broadband for Internet access as well as directory publishing and Internet yellow pages. As new, proven technology becomes available, we’ll be able to offer even more solutions for our customers," Ruley said.
