The Carlyle Group Names David Torline Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Hawaiian Telcom; Seasoned Phone Company Executive Worked for 33 Years at Cincinnati Bell

Honolulu, HI - Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group today announced that David A. Torline has been named Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Hawaiian Telcom. He will be responsible for the company's overall IT strategy and direction, which includes selecting, engineering and implementing new, key technologies and systems that support and drive the business. He will also be responsible for developing and managing the strategic supplier relationships in the IT area. Mr. Torline will relocate to Hawaii.


Carlyle Managing Director William E. Kennard said, “Over the past year, Mr. Torline has been a key advisor to Carlyle on the acquisition of Verizon Hawaii. Dave has more than three decades of experience in phone company management and business systems development, which will be critical in transforming Hawaiian Telcom into a stand-alone local company. From 1999 to 2003, Mr. Torline was the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Broadwing Inc., the former parent corporation of Cincinnati Bell, where he developed and implemented business systems infrastructure in a rapidly growing national network company, improving overall work process flow and service delivery processes.


Prior to that position, Mr. Torline served as the senior Information Technology executive for Cincinnati Bell from 1995 to 1999. In that capacity he was responsible for the strategic direction of Cincinnati Bell's systems and for the development and implementation of the many business critical platforms that Cincinnati Bell used to deliver the outstanding customer service for which it has received international recognition. From October 1992 through December 1994, Mr. Torline also served as President of Cincinnati Bell Supply, a former Cincinnati Bell Inc. subsidiary involved in desktop computer services and secondary telecommunications markets.


Throughout his 33-year career at Cincinnati Bell/Broadwing, Mr. Torline held numerous key management and information technology positions. Through various management positions within the company, he helped to focus the company's core computing competencies, maintained and updated the company's systems and data architecture, and enhanced the company's enterprise computing services and network operations.


In addition to his work with The Carlyle Group, Mr. Torline is an active member of the community. He currently serves on the board of Pro Seniors, a non-profit senior advocacy group serving senior citizens throughout the Cincinnati area, and is a member of the Greenhills/Forest Park Kiwanis.


A native of Covington, Kentucky, Mr. Torline, 54, earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and an M.B.A. from the University of Cincinnati.
