The Carlyle Group Establishes Office in Australia; Names Simon Moore Managing Director and Head of Australia Buyout Team; Carlyle Now Has Eight Offices in the Pan-Asian Region

Washington, DC – Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group today announced that it has established an office in Sydney, Australia and has named Simon C. Moore Managing Director and Head of the Australia Buyout team. Mr. Moore joins Carlyle from Investcorp International, where he served as a Managing Director and a member of the Investment Committee. He will begin his duties in October and be based in Sydney.

X.D. Yang, Managing Director and Co-head of the Asia Buyout group, which includes Australia, said, "We are very pleased to have such a seasoned and successful private equity professional to lead our effort in Australia. The Australia buyout team is part of the growing Carlyle Asia Buyout group, co-headed by Managing Directors X.D. Yang and Greg Zeluck. The Asia Buyout group consists of six Managing Directors and 14 additional investment professionals, who work out of its offices in Beijing, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.

Joining Mr. Moore are two Carlyle investment professionals, Vice President Adrian M. Siew and Associate Harold B.S. Ong.

Simon Moore

Mr. Moore joined Investcorp in 2001, first as a Principal and then as a Managing Director and a member of the Investment Committee. At Investcorp, he played a key role in the sourcing, negotiating, structuring, financing and overseeing of a number of investments.

Prior to Investcorp, Mr. Moore was a Vice President and then Partner at JP Morgan Capital Corporation where he worked in New York and Hong Kong from 1996 to 2000.

From 1992 to 1995, Mr. Moore was first an Associate and then a Vice President at JP Morgan Corporate Finance in Melbourne and New York, where he was responsible for transaction origination and execution in mergers & acquisitions and international debt financings. From 1990 to 1991 he was a Lecturer in Finance at the University of Queensland, Australia.

Mr. Moore earned his Bachelor of Law and his Bachelor of Commerce degrees from the University of Queensland, Australia.
