The Carlyle Group Builds European Leveraged Finance Team; Four Appointed Under Mike Ramsay's Leadership

London - Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group today announced that the Carlyle Europe Leveraged Finance business (CELF), spearheaded by Managing Director Mike Ramsay, has appointed four additional members to the team.


Mike Ramsay, Carlylel Managing Director said, “I am delighted to have built the team here in Europe so quickly. The team all have great expertise in this sector, and we will now be up to full strength and will have good momentum to cover the European leveraged finance market.”


Colin Atkins joins Carlyle today as a Director. He was previously a Director of the Leveraged Finance business at Prudential M&Amp;G with Mike Ramsay. He has worked at Prudential since 1990, where he had positions in Corporate Tax, Corporate Treasury and the US Corporate Private Placement team.


Nilesh Desai has been hired as an Associate Director in the CELF team. He joins from Citigroup, where he was a Vice President responsible for monitoring credits in the European leveraged finance portfolio, and involved in structuring and negotiating restructurings. Nilesh has a B.S. in management sciences from the University of Warwick


Caroline Goldsmith joined the Carlyle team in September 2004 as an Associate Director, and is involved in the structuring of levered funds and in portfolio management of leveraged finance assets. Previously, Caroline has carried out a similar role at Prudential M&Amp;G with Mike Ramsay, and at Alcentra, an independent debt management company, where she was Head of Structuring.


Stuart Mackenzie has been hired as a Senior Associate. He joins from Alcentra and has worked in the leveraged finance market for several years. He has a B.S. in financial and business economics from Royal Holloway, University of London.


The Carlyle Group’s leveraged finance team has operated in the U.S. since 1999 and currently manages $3 billion of assets committed to leveraged loans, high yield bonds and special situation investments in six collateralized debt obligations (CDOs). Carlyle’s leveraged finance activities are now expanding to Europe with the establishment of the new European team. Carlyle plans to invest in European senior secured bank loans, as well as mezzanine loans and high yield bonds. The team will leverage Carlyle’s extensive industry-based investment expertise in areas including healthcare, automotive, industrial, energy, transportation, aerospace, and telecommunications and media.
