The Carlyle Group Acquires Majority Stake in Newgen Imaging Systems, One of India's Leading E-Publishing Services Companies

Bangalore, India - Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group today announced the close of a US$9.4 million investment to acquire a majority stake in Outfield Knowledge Works Private Limited (Outfield), the holding company of Newgen Imaging Systems Private Limited (Newgen), a leading E-publishing services company in India. Newgen combines traditional typesetting skills with high-end E-publishing technologies to present a viable and cost effective solution to publishers on a global basis. Carlyle invested in Outfield through Carlyle Asia Venture Partners II, its Asia venture capital fund.


Newgen, based in Chennai, India, is one of India’s fastest growing E-publishing companies offering end-to-end pre-press composition services that combine traditional typesetting skills with high-end publishing technologies. The company’s portfolios of services include type setting, art work, scanning, indexing, pagination, editing and project management for the publishing industry and data conversion services for both the publishing and non publishing segments.
