Christian Schmitz is a Managing Director with Carlyle Strategic Partners, focusing on distressed and special situations investment opportunities. He is based in London.
Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Schmitz was a senior analyst with Och-Ziff’s corporate credit team, investing across the capital structure, from senior secured debt to equity in performing, restructuring and liquidation scenarios. While at Och-Ziff, Mr. Schmitz served on several creditor committees across various corporate restructurings. Prior to that, Mr. Schmitz spent three years at Gruss Asset Management investing in both liquid equity and credit instruments. Before that, Mr. Schmitz spent six years in Goldman Sachs’ European Special Situations Group.
Mr. Schmitz started his career at Credit Suisse. He received his degree in business administration from University of Cologne, and he speaks German, Spanish, Italian and French.
