The Carlyle Group Names Admiral Jim Stavridis USN (Ret) as Operating Executive

30-Year Military Leader, Educator and Author to Advise Executive Suite and Investment Teams on Range of Strategic and Investment Issues

Washington, DC – Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group (NASDAQ: CG) today announced that Jim Stavridis, former 4-star U.S. Navy Admiral, has been retained as an Operating Executive consultant. He began this role on June 1, 2018.

In this capacity, Admiral Stavridis will advise Carlyle’s executive team and investment professionals on geopolitical and national security issues, engage with Carlyle’s limited partners and support Carlyle’s portfolio companies. He joins a group of more than 40 senior business executives – with an average of more than 30 years of experience – who help Carlyle invest wisely and create value across a range of industries. Admiral Stavridis will continue to devote time to various roles outside of Carlyle.

During his Navy career, Admiral Stavridis served in a variety of roles, including Supreme Allied Commander of NATO and Commander of the US Southern Command in Miami; senior military assistant to the Secretary of the Navy and the Secretary of Defense; and leader of the Navy’s premier operational think tank for innovation, Deep Blue, immediately after the 9/11 attacks. He is the author of eight books on leadership, the oceans, maritime affairs and Latin America, as well as hundreds of journal articles and ep-eds.

Admiral Stavridis earned his PhD in International Relations and his MA in Law and Diplomacy both from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, and he is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. Admiral Stavridis is the Chair of the Board of the U.S. Naval Institute, the Chair of the Board of Counselors at McLarty Associates, a monthly columnist for TIME Magazine and Chief International Security Analyst for NBC News.
