Grupo Boticário Joins The Carlyle Group as Strategic Partner in Scalina, the Largest Women’s Intimate Apparel Company in Brazil
Sao Paulo, Brazil – Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group and Scalina, Brazil’s largest manufacturer and retailer of women’s intimate apparel, today announced that Grupo Boticário, a major Brazilian company in the cosmetics, toiletries and fragrances space through two brands – O Boticário and Eudora – has become a strategic partner, agreeing to purchase a minority stake in Scalina. Proceeds from the investment will help to fuel Scalina’s growth, among other purposes. Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction is subject to usual conditions and is expected to close in 30 days. Ronaldo Heilberg, Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Scalina, said, “We are honored to partner with Grupo Boticário, one of the most respected companies in Brazil. This is another important chapter in Scalina’s transformation since we partnered with Carlyle in August 2010.” Juan Carlos Felix, Carlyle’s Managing Director in the region and Vice-Chairman of the Scalina Board, said, “The entrance of Grupo Boticário positions Scalina and its brands – Trifil and Scala – as the best platform, in terms of competencies and governance, to absorb the expected growth in this industry.” Artur Grynbaum, Grupo Boticário’s CEO, said that this is the group’s first step into the fashion sector. “This minority acquisition is part of the diversification strategy that the group is undergoing, with the goal of being a serious contender in the beauty and fashion segments.
