Wilfred A. Finnegan Named Senior Advisor to Carlyle High Yield

New York, NY – Global Private Equity Firm The Carlyle Group today named Wilfred “Bill” A. Finnegan senior advisor to Carlyle’s high yield operation. Mr. Finnegan, who brings 19 years of investment banking experience to Carlyle, will play a central role in growing Carlyle’s leveraged finance business. He begins immediately and will be based in New York.

From 1993 to 2000, Mr. Finnegan served in several senior capacities at Chase Manhattan, including Head of Global Leveraged Finance, Member of the Management Committee, and Member of the Market Risk and Global Markets Committees. As Head of Global Leveraged Finance, Mr. Finnegan directed the global high yield finance and financial sponsor coverage businesses. Under his leadership, the financial sponsor coverage business expanded globally and revenue doubled.


In 1993, Mr. Finnegan started Chase’s high yield securities business. He developed the strategy and recruited key personnel for all aspects of the origination, capital markets, sales, trading, and research efforts of the business. Further, Mr. Finnegan was Chairman of the High Yield Underwriting Committee and responsible for the firm’s subordinated debt bridge commitments. He also was responsible for the firm’s loan trading business and for all non-investment grade private placements, including mezzanine financings.


From 1990 to 1993, Mr. Finnegan worked at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, where he was first a Senior Vice President in the Media and Telecom Group and then a Managing Director in the High Yield capital Markets Group. From 1984 to 1990, Mr. Finnegan focused on media, telecom, and energy investment opportunities at Drexel, Burnham & Lambert.


Mr. Finnegan, 45, graduated from Dartmouth College and earned his M.B.A. from Dartmouth’s Amos Tuck School. He is a Trustee and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the New York United Hospital Medical Center, an affiliate of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System.
