The Carlyle Group Promotes Two Managing Directors to Senior Investment Roles

Brian Bernasek Named Head of the Global Industrial and Transportation Team and Stephen Wise Named Co-head of the Global Healthcare Team

Washington, DC – Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group (NASDAQ: CG) today announced that Carlyle Managing Director Brian Bernasek has been named Head of the Global Industrial and Transportation team and that Carlyle Managing Director Stephen Wise will join Managing Director Karen Bechtel as Co-Head of the Global Healthcare team. These changes are effective immediately.

Allan Holt and Pete Clare, Managing Directors and Co-Heads of the U.S. Buyout group, said, “Brian and Steve are thoughtful and proven investors who have served Carlyle investors well for many years. These new leadership roles reflect jobs well done, confidence in the future, and the depth and scope of the talent at Carlyle.”

Mr. Bernasek succeeds Greg Ledford, a 25-year Carlyle veteran, who will continue as a Managing Director on the U.S. Buyout team and board member of Axalta Coatings Systems, Greater China Intermodal and ADT Korea. Since joining Carlyle in 2000, Mr. Bernasek has led or been a key contributor to many investments, including Allison Transmission, Rexnord Corporation, The Hertz Corporation, Signode Industrial Group, AxleTech International and Accudyne Industries. Prior to joining Carlyle, he held positions with Investcorp International and Morgan Stanley & Co. Mr. Bernasek is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and earned his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Mr. Wise has joined Karen Bechtel as Co-Head of the Global Healthcare team, where they have worked closely together for nine years. Since joining Carlyle in 2006, Mr. Wise has led or been a key contributor to many healthcare investments around the world, including Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, Pharmaceutical Product Development, Inc., Grupo Qualicorp, HCR-Manor Care, Healthscope Limited and Multiplan. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Wise worked with private equity firms JLL Partners and J.W. Childs Associates, and Credit Suisse. Mr. Wise earned his B.A. in economics and finance from Bucknell University and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
