The Carlyle Group to Acquire UC4 Software in Partnership with Management

Vienna, Austria – Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group today announces that, in partnership with CEO and Founder Franz Beranek and Management, it has signed an agreement to acquire UC4 Software GmbH, subject to regulatory approvals. Financial details were not disclosed.


UC4 Software is a leading software vendor of enterprise job scheduling and workload automation software, based in Wolfsgraben, Austria. The company was founded in 1985 and is now the leading specialist vendor of IT job scheduling software tools, with a customer base of 750 companies. Its flagship product is branded ‘UC4:global’ and its market is typically midsize, large and global companies. The company employs 145 people and in 2005 generated €24.8 million in revenues.


The Carlyle Group has invested in UC4 Software through its European technology investment fund, Carlyle Europe Technology Partners. The team has deep expertise in investing in software companies, and through its global network of 25 offices in 14 countries, is able to help companies expand geographically.

2005 was the most successful year for UC4 Software in the course of the 20 years existence of the company. Since 2004 when two private equity investors invested the company has received several inquiries from international investors. "In recent months I have worked very closely with Carlyle and was impressed by their business approach and their enthusiasm about the vision of UC4. In addition to its global network, The Carlyle Group provides software and technology know-how and enriches our portfolio. Carlyle has made a strong commitment to support UC4 Software in its efforts to maintain growth and development. With its support we are the strongest player in the job scheduling market," said CEO Beranek.


The Carlyle European Technology team seeks to invest in telecoms, media and technology sector companies across Europe with strong revenue generation and an enterprise value of between €25 and €250 million. In 2004, Carlyle invested in Personal & Informatik, a human resources software and services vendor, and in 2005 Carlyle acquired Cameca, an ion and electron probe manufacturer for the examination of materials. UC4 is the second investment from Carlyle Europe Technology Partners, LP.
