The Carlyle Group Names Former Bombardier Inc. President and CEO Alain Bellemare as an Operating Executive for Global Aerospace & Government Services

WASHINGTON, DC - The Carlyle Group (NASDAQ: CG) today announced that Alain Bellemare, former President and CEO of Bombardier Inc, has been named an Operating Executive consultant in the Global Aerospace & Government Services Group.

As an Operating Executive, Alain will play an active role in identifying new investment and partnership opportunities while helping to build, grow and transform portfolio companies across Carlyle’s global platform. He will advise Carlyle’s Aerospace portfolio company executives and management teams on growth strategies, leadership and talent development, effective operations and risk management. Bellemare joins a broad and diverse group of nearly 50 Operating Executives, Senior Advisors and Operating Advisors who help Carlyle invest wisely, create value and have a meaningful impact on companies across all industries. Mr. Bellemare will also continue to devote time to various roles outside of the firm.

Bellemare was President and Chief Executive Officer, Bombardier Inc. from 2015 to 2020, leading the company through an extensive, multi-year transformation. Prior to joining Bombardier,

Mr. Bellemare was President and Chief Executive Officer of UTC Propulsion & Aerospace Systems from July 2012 to January 2015. His responsibilities also included some of the largest programs in UTC’s history, among them the integrated aerospace systems for the Boeing 787, Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan Engine and the F135 engine for the Joint Strike Fighter.

Alain Bellemare began his career with UTC at Pratt & Whitney Canada in 1996 as Vice President of Manufacturing. He held leadership roles of increasing responsibility at UTC including President of Pratt & Whitney Canada (2002), President of Hamilton Sundstrand (2009), and Chief Operating Officer of UTC Propulsion & Aerospace Systems (2011).

Mr. Bellemare is a member of the Faculty Advisory Board of McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management. He also served on the Board of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

Bellemare earned an MBA from McGill University, a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Sherbrooke, and he specialized in aeronautical engineering at Institut Supérieur de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace (ISAE-SUPAERO) in Toulouse, France.
