Karen McMonagle

Karen McMonagle is the Global Head of Transaction Management for Carlyle’s Global Private Equity funds. In her role, Ms. McMonagle is responsible for driving the execution process and timeline, risk management assessment arising from deal activity, and designing and establishing operational infrastructure with teams to ensure successful and efficient transaction execution. Ms. McMonagle had a number of prior roles at Carlyle, most recently from 2018-2020, she was the Chief Financial Officer for Carlyle’s Asia Buyout, Growth and Beijing Partners and was responsible for overseeing the administration of those funds, including fund formation, deal structuring and execution, financial reporting, investment valuations, compliance management and investor relations. She was the Emerging Markets Transactions Lead with responsibility for investment structuring funds in Asia Private Equity and Real Estate, Japan and Latin America. She is based in Washington, DC.

Prior to joining Carlyle, Ms. McMonagle was a Director at KPMG, and worked in Chicago, Buenos Aires and Dublin.  She advised clients on international mergers and acquisitions transactions in the private equity and real estate sectors, implementing structures and assessing risk for large asset managers and MNCs arising from their investments and structures.  She also specialized in real assets transactions in Dublin and Chicago, including advising global renewable energy clients as they expanded and invested in the US and Europe.  She began her career with Arthur Andersen in Dublin.

Ms. McMonagle received her LLB (Law and Accounting) from Queen’s University Belfast and a Diploma in Arbitration from University College Dublin. She is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) and Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA).
