Catalin Breaban is a Managing Director within the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Fund. His sector expertise includes renewable energy, telecom infrastructure and general industrials. He is based in London.
Mr. Breaban joined Carlyle from Longspur Capital, where he served as Co-Head and founding shareholder for the FCA-regulated renewable and sustainable investment company based in London. Mr. Breaban founded Longspur at the end of 2017 together with Harry Bond and with the backing of two large single family offices, AtlasInvest and GVO. He co-lead Longspur’s private equity investment activities, as well as Longspur’s asset management separate vertical, under an IMA with Tenaga Nasional Berhad, a listed Asian utility.
Previously, Mr. Breaban was the Chief Executive Officer and founding shareholder of Bluemerang Capital Limited, a U.K.-based renewable investment platform that he set up in 2012 and grew organically and via M&A, achieving an exit in 2018 in a $240 million transaction.
Prior to that, Mr. Breaban was a Vice President with Carlyle. He started his career in investment banking, working for seven years as Vice President with HSBC Financial Sponsors and as senior associate with Raiffeisen Investment’s industrials’ team.
He is a board member of Longspur Capital and New Southern Energy and was formerly on the board of Bluemerang Capital.
Mr. Breaban has an MBA from INSEAD and a BA from Academy of Economic Studies Bucharest.
