The Carlyle Group Hires Dan Cohn-Sfetcu for Direct Lending Origination

Industry Veteran to Join Middle Market Lending Platform Within Carlyle Global Market Strategies

New York – Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group (NASDAQ: CG) today announced that Dan Cohn-Sfetcu has joined the firm as Managing Director to originate and execute middle market credit investments for Carlyle GMS Finance, Inc., a Business Development Company, as well as its affiliated investment vehicle, NF Investment Corp.  Carlyle GMS Finance, Inc. and NF Investment Corp. are primarily focused on lending to private U.S. middle market companies, many controlled by private equity firms. In aggregate, Carlyle’s middle market credit investment team advised approximately $2.5 billion in assets under management across five funds as of March 31, 2015. 

Mr. Cohn-Sfetcu, 41, joins Carlyle from American Capital where he was a Managing Director.  He began his duties this month and is based in New York.

At American Capital, Mr. Cohn-Sfetcu was responsible for coverage of middle market private equity firms, and executing credit investments throughout the capital structure.  Prior to joining American Capital, he worked in private equity as well as investment banking. Mr. Cohn-Sfetcu earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University.

Carlyle has actively grown its middle market lending business, which now has coverage of more than 200 private equity firms.

Carlyle’s Global Market Strategies platform had approximately $36 billion in assets under management as of March 31, 2015. The platform includes: mezzanine and energy mezzanine loans; high yield and structured credit; distressed equity and debt; and three hedge fund strategies (long/short credit, emerging market equities, macroeconomic and commodities). The GMS platform has more than 145 investment professionals in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago, Hong Kong, and London.
