Fernando Borges is a Managing Director and the Head of the Carlyle South America Buyout group focused on private equity investment opportunities in South America. He is based in São Paulo.
Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Borges was a Managing Director at AIG Capital Partners and CEO of AIG Capital Investments do Brasil, having participated in 12 investments in the region. From 1994 to 1999, he was a Director at Bozano-Simonsen Private Equity, where he was responsible for managing a private equity fund sponsored by Bozano Simonsen and Advent International. Mr. Borges has 15 years of private equity experience in Brazil and has participated in nearly 20 transactions. Mr. Borges had active participation and Board tenure in 14 companies, including credit card processor CardSystem (BVSP: CARD3), steel parts and industrial valves producer Lupatech (BVSP: LUPA3), non-woven producer Providência (BVSP: PRVI3), meat processor Frigorífico Mercosul, fertilizer producer Fertilizantes Heringer (BVSP: FHER3), food retailer Distribuidora Sendas, airline Gol Linhas Aéreas (NYSE: GOL), on-line retailer Americanas.com, and drugstore chain Fasint.
Mr. Borges holds a graduate degree from the SAIS—School of Advanced International Studies of the Johns Hopkins University, the Bologna Center, and a B.A. in international relations from Universidade de Brasília.
