Eric Mason is a Managing Director in the Carlyle Asia Leveraged Finance team. He is based in Hong Kong.
Prior to joining the Carlyle Group in June 2007, Eric was Co-Head of Syndicated and Leveraged Finance for JPMorgan based in Hong Kong. Eric has been in Asia for over 15 years and is considered one of the pioneers in the leveraged finance market. At JPMorgan, Eric headed a team of over 25 investment professionals across the entire region. Under Eric's leadership the JPMorgan leveraged finance earned a reputation as the most experienced team for structuring, underwriting and effectively distributing leveraged loans and high yield bonds in Asia. Eric personally led the financing teams for many of the region’s landmark LBO deals including Carlyle’s acquisition of Willcom in Japan.
Eric received his master's degree from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University concentrating in finance and Chinese studies.
Before graduate school Eric worked for three years for Senator Bill Bradley in Washington and later spent over two years in China with Princeton-in-Asia teaching international affairs and studying Mandarin Chinese.
