Pauline J. Brown is a Managing Director focused on U.S. buyout opportunities in the consumer and retail industries. She is based in New York.
Prior to joining Carlyle, Ms. Brown was the Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Global Business Development for Avon Products, Inc., the world's largest direct seller and a leading beauty company, with over $8 billion in sales. At Avon, Ms. Brown was responsible for developing the company's growth strategy, driving key components of its turnaround plan and launching new business initiatives. She also was a member of Avon’s Executive Committee, which met regularly to evaluate enterprise-wide issues and review operating performance.
She joined Avon in 2005 from The Estee Lauder Companies, Inc., where she was the Vice President of Corporate Strategy and New Business Development, responsible for all mergers, acquisitions and licensing deals. During her tenure, Ms. Brown helped to expand the company's portfolio from 8 to 25 distinct beauty brands. She joined Estee Lauder in 1997.
Prior to Estee Lauder, Ms. Brown was a Management Consultant with Bain & Company in Boston.
She earned an M.B.A. from The Wharton School and a B.A. from Dartmouth College.
Ms. Brown currently serves on the Board of Directors of Philosophy, Inc., a premium personal care brand, and Moncler S.p.A., an Italian sportswear manufacturer. She also sits on the Boards of the Avon Foundation and the Cosmetic Executive Women, and she is a member of the Committee of 200, the Women's Forum and the New York City Investment Fund. In 2008, Ms. Brown was elected as a Henry Crown fellow of the Aspen Institute.
