Jung Woo Sung is a Vice President in the Asia Growth Capital Group. He is based in Seoul.
Prior to joining Carlyle in 2006, Mr. Sung was a Principal at SAIF Partners (formerly, SOFTBANK Asia Infrastructure Fund), an independent pan-Asian private equity operation, where he focused on investments in the telecom, media, technology and business services sectors in Korea and closed six transactions. Mr. Sung was a founding member of SAIF’s Korean investment operation and led SAIF’s investment in WiderThan Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: WTHN, acquired by Real Networks), a leading global provider of mobile entertainment solutions for wireless carriers around the world, and was a member of the company’s Board of Directors. Previously, Mr. Sung was a co-founder of La Jolla Investment, a boutique financial advisory firm, and held various positions within Tong Yang Group, a leading financial conglomerate in Korea. Mr. Sung currently sits on the Board of Directors of FN STARS Co., Ltd., TOPIA Education, Inc. and HKucar Global Co., Ltd., portfolio companies of Carlyle Asia Growth Partners.
Mr. Sung received his B.A. in economics from The University of Chicago.
