Jung Woo Sung is a Vice President in the Asia Growth Capital Group. He is based in Seoul.
Prior to joining Carlyle in 2006, Mr. Sung was a Principal at SAIF Partners (formerly, SOFTBANK Asia Infrastructure Fund), an independent pan-Asian private equity operation, where he focused on investments in the telecom, media, technology and business services sectors in Korea and closed six transactions. Mr. Sung was a founding member of SAIF’s Korean investment operation and led SAIF’s investment in WiderThan Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: WTHN, acquired by Real Networks), a leading global provider of mobile entertainment solutions for wireless carriers around the world, and was a member of the company’s Board of Directors. Previously, Mr. Sung was a co-founder of La Jolla Investment, a boutique financial advisory firm, and held various positions within Tong Yang Group, a leading financial conglomerate in Korea. Mr. Sung currently sits on the Board of Directors of FN STARS Co., Ltd., a portfolio company of Carlyle Asia Growth Partners
Mr. Sung received his B.A. in economics from The University of Chicago.
