Transportation
Gregory S. Ledford is a Managing Director and head of the Industrial & Transportation team. He is based in Washington, DC.
Mr. Ledford joined Carlyle in 1988 and has led the firm's investments in Allison Transmission, AxleTech International, Horizon Lines, Grand Vehicle Works and Piedmont/Hawthorne Holdings. He also led the firm’s investment in Hertz, for which he was awarded the Buyouts Mega Deal of the Year for 2005.
From 1991 to 1997, he was Chairman and CEO of The Reilly Corp., a former portfolio company that was successfully sold in September 1997.
Prior to his appointment as Managing Director, Mr. Ledford held the positions of Vice President and Principal at Carlyle.
Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Ledford was Director of Capital Leasing for MCI Telecommunications, where he was responsible for more than $1 billion of leveraged lease financing.
Mr. Ledford is a graduate of the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce, where he is the Vice President of the Foundation Board, and received his M.B.A. from Loyola College.
Mr. Ledford is a member of the Board of Directors of Allison Transmission, Greater Industrial China, HD Supply and Veyance Technologies.
