Gregory S. Ledford is a Managing Director focused on U.S. buyout opportunities in the automotive, transportation and logistics sectors. He is based in Washington, DC.
Mr. Ledford joined Carlyle in 1988 and is currently head of the Automotive and Transportation group. He led the firm's investments in Allison Transmission, AxleTech International, Hertz, Horizon Lines, Grand Vehicle Works and Piedmont/Hawthorne Holdings. From 1991 to 1997, he was Chairman and CEO of The Reilly Corp., a former portfolio company that was successfully sold in September 1997.
Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Ledford was Director of Capital Leasing for MCI Telecommunications, where he was responsible for more than $1 billion of leveraged lease financing.
Mr. Ledford is a graduate of the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce, where he is the Vice President of the Foundation Board, and received his M.B.A. from Loyola College.
Mr. Ledford is a member of the Board of Directors of Allison Transmission, The Hertz Corporation and United Components.
