Wolfgang Hanrieder is a Managing Director, based in London. He co-heads the firm's technology investment activities in Europe, and also is a board member of the companies owning and managing the European assets in the technology growth-buyout segment.
Prior to joining Carlyle, in March 2002, Dr Hanrieder was a Managing Partner at Star Ventures Management, responsible for investment activities in the U.S. and Germany. He started his career with Siemens AG, where he led departments and strategic initiatives targeted on various high-tech industry sectors. Later, Dr. Hanrieder worked for Siemens-Nixdorf Information Systems in the U.S.
Dr. Hanrieder currently sits on the Board of UC4 Software and is a member of the Board of Siemens Technology Accelerator GmbH. He was the Chairman of the Board of Trema Group (acquired by Wall Street Systems) and served on the Boards of Directors of Cameca Group (acquired by Ametek), Fennel Technologies (sold to HNH), and Personal & Informatik (stock exchange, Frankfurt).
Dr. Hanrieder received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from the Technical University Munich, Germany. He is an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow and holds an Executive M.B.A. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, U.S.A.
