Mark R. Genender is a Managing Director focused on U.S. buyout investment opportunities in the consumer and retail industries. He is based in New York.
Prior to joining Carlyle in 2010, Mr. Genender co-founded Star Avenue Capital, a consumer growth equity vehicle with Irving Place Capital and Creative Artists Agency. While at Star, he led the fund’s investment in J Brand Holdings and served on the Board.
Previously, Mr. Genender spent 11 years at Fenway Partners, a middle market private equity firm where he was based in New York and then Los Angeles. Mr. Genender was actively involved in several of Fenway’s consumer and retail investments including Easton-Bell Sports, Harry Winston, Simmons Company and Delimex and served as a Board member of each company.
Prior to Fenway, Mr. Genender held management roles at both Nabisco International and the Frito-Lay division of PepsiCo, Inc. Mr. Genender also spent three years in the mergers and acquisition department of Goldman, Sachs both in New York and London.
Mr. Genender received his M.B.A. with distinction from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France and an A.B. from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.
