Masao Hirano is a Managing Director and Co-Head of Carlyle Japan buyout team. He is based in Tokyo.
Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Hirano was a Director and Japan Head of McKinsey & Company. He has been a senior consultant to major Japanese companies in a broad range of industries from high-tech, telecom, media and electric power to transportation, consumer and pharmaceutical. He has been advising on key managerial topics such as growth strategy, portfolio restructuring, M&A, cross-boarder alliance, operational improvement and corporate governance.
Mr. Hirano received his M.S. in engineering and economic systems from Stanford University and a degree from Tokyo University in reaction chemistry.
